A Heritage of Integrity, Excellence, and Compassion

There are few health facilities in the Philippines that offer quality, comprehensive, and affordable dermatology care. The University of the Philippines College of Medicine – Philippine General Hospital Department of Dermatology is an academic institution with a heritage of integrity and excellence that provides compassionate care.

About Us

An Institution of Firsts

Following the vision-mission goals of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and the PGH Department of Medicine, the Section of Dermatology was established in 1922 under the leadership of Dr. Perpetuo Gutierrez, the Father of Dermatology in the Philippines. The section became the first residency training program in Dermatology in the country in 1969 and the first training program to be accredited by the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) in 1971. On February 3, 2020, the section was elevated by the UP Board of Regents to the Department of Dermatology.

Our Core Services

Teaching Students

The students of the UP College of Medicine receive their rigorous dermatology training from the department from their first year medicine proper until internship. The department has been voted by third year students as the best clinical rotation for two consecutive years (2018 and 2019).

Teaching Residents

The department has consistently produced dermatologists who are excellent and relevant physicians, researchers, teachers, policy makers, and society leaders. While the new curriculum for residency training opens the door wider for the exciting field of aesthetic dermatology, the department remains steadfast in its commitment to medical dermatology.

Caring for Patients

The patients seen at the department’s outpatient clinic and the in-patient referrals have access to both general and subspecialty dermatology services. As a university-based tertiary hospital with an extensive network of specialty units, the patients receive a comprehensive management through a multidisciplinary approach.
